Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Dear Literary Friends,

1 January marked the 200th anniversary of the publishing by Lackington, Hughes, Harding, Mavor & Jones of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Written by Mary Shelley when she was just eighteen years old, it is an incredible example of romantic gothic horror and some even claim it was one of the first science fiction books.  The story which came to Mary in a dream, captured the world of young scientist Victor Frankenstein and his damning choices which led him to create 'the monster'.

We celebrate the incredibly talented Mary with our Women in Literature series by UK artist Kirsty Maclennan.

"My dreams were all my own; I accounted to nobody; they were my refuge...my dearest pleasure." - Mary Shelley
